Challenges with Automation for Games

Coming from a world of web and mobile automation, my first encounter with game testing made me realize how little options we have for automation in games. It also showed me the importance of fast feedback and the need for automation solutions for games, by introducing me to the pain points of mobile game development companies trying to test their games across multiple platforms and device models. This talk will describe my journey into the world of game automation, the challenges I encountered while testing games and how they compare to the typical web and mobile application testing challenges. I will walk you through what worked and what hasn’t, from using image recognition to building an open source tool for UI driven automation for Unity games.
