I’m Vipin Jain, a Quality Assurance professional and community contributor with over 25 years of experience in software testing, quality engineering, and building high-performing QA cultures. Over the years, I’ve spoken at global platforms more than 50 times, sharing real-world insights on testing strategy, quality leadership, and the evolution of QA in fast-paced engineering teams. Speech: Turning Logs into Test Strategy

Embedded systems rarely fail in a clean or predictable way. They do not give you a clear stack trace or a helpful error message. Instead, they behave inconsistently. A device might work perfectly one day and then reboot unexpectedly at 3 AM, drop sensor readings without any obvious reason, or disconnect from BLE only in a specific location. In this space, defects are difficult to reproduce, environments are constantly changing, and the only evidence we often have is a scattered collection of logs, crash dumps, and telemetry.

In my experience, this is where most teams hit a wall. Logs are typically treated as something to look at after a failure, not as a source of insight to guide testing. When problems show up in production, the response is usually reactive. Teams add more test cases, extend regression cycles, and spend hours manually going through logs to understand what happened. Even after all that effort, feedback remains slow, testing costs increase, and important gaps still exist across different hardware setups, firmware versions, and real world usage conditions.

This session presents a different perspective. Instead of reacting to issues after they occur, we can use AI to learn from system behavior continuously. Techniques like clustering, anomaly detection, semantic log analysis, and event correlation allow us to identify patterns that are otherwise difficult to see. We can uncover recurring failure signatures, detect early warning signals, and convert real world behavior into meaningful test scenarios.

With this approach, testing becomes more focused and driven by risk rather than volume. Instead of running everything every time, we concentrate on areas that are most likely to break. This leads to faster feedback, better coverage of critical scenarios, and more efficient use of testing effort.

Attendees will learn how to turn logs into practical test scenarios, how to prioritize regression based on actual failure patterns, and how AI can reduce the time spent on investigation while improving confidence in the system. The objective is not to replace engineers or add complexity, but to reduce guesswork, speed up issue reproduction, avoid late surprises, and make embedded systems behave more predictably.

At its core, the idea is simple. Use real system behavior to guide testing decisions. Move from reacting to failures to anticipating them. And shift from scattered data to actionable insight that helps build more reliable systems.
